Lead
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) February 1, 2011 - “whadup?...just chillin…Which form of
matter has the highest density?” Students spend hours a day sending and reading
test messages. Why not use some of that time helping students learn? Home Room
Mobile (http://www.homeroommobile.com)
provides schools with a secure teacher text messaging service for sending
reminders, key facts and quizzes to students.
Body
Home Room Mobile (http://www.homeroommobile.com)
allows teachers to securely text a reminder, a key fact, or a quiz to an entire
class of students with a few key strokes and the click of a button. The entire
process takes only a few minutes per day.
Typical Reminders texted to students
might include: “Research paper is due Wednesday”, “Remember your
current event tomorrow”, etc. In order to re-enforce a Key Fact from
a particular lesson, the teacher may text students a message such as: “John
Adams was the second US president”, “Density stays the same, even if the
volume changes”, and so on.
To ensure that the students are grasping key concepts, teachers can text
Quizzes to the students. An example of a quiz might be: “Which form of matter has the highest
density?, 1 – Liquid, 2 – Solid, 3 – Gas “. The
student replies with an answer. The student is then is notified by text message
if their selection was correct or not. If the student’s selection was incorrect,
the student is given the correct answer to the question. Student responses are
saved and displayed in a variety of detailed reports. Reports can be used to
award extra credit to the students or simply to evaluate how well the students
grasped a key concept.
Students sign up online and select their classes. In order to maintain privacy
and confidentiality, the student never sees the teacher’s cell phone number and
the teacher never sees the student’s cell phone number.
In addition, all messages are stored in
the Home Room Mobile database and are available for review by school
administration.
In order to insure equal access to students that do not have cell phones, the
messages and quizzes are available via the student’s account at
http://www.homeroommobile.com. This
allows the messages and quizzes to be available on any computer with Internet
access.
